Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy (psychotherapy) used by Registered Clinical Counsellors at Remedy Wellness Centre Online.
CBT sessions are structured to help you become aware of habitual negative thinking. By identifying and changing these negative patterns of thought, you can change the way you view challenging situations and respond to them in a healthier and more effective way. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be a very useful tool. It can be used along, or in conjunction with other therapies to treat many mental health challenges. Common reasons to try CBT include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or an eating disorder, but it can be applied to many more situations as well. |
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is not only used to treat mental health disorders, but is also a highly effective tool to help you learn to better manage stressful life situations. They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You can and should apply this principle to all aspects of your health and wellness. You stretch and exercise to take care of your muscles and joints. You eat healthy foods and are aware of your nutritional needs. What do you do to care for your mental wellbeing? For some, simple practices like meditation and mindfulness are enough. Others need a little more guidance and help in this department. That's where we come in!
CBT and Pain
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can also be very useful for helping you break a chronic pain cycle. There are clinical studies that prove that a person's mental state of being before and after they sustain a physical injury, has a great effect on the recovery from that injury. For example, if you are going through a divorce, grieving the loss of a loved one or exhausted from work/life stresses and then you get into a car accident, you are far more likely to develop chronic pain.

"Pain is demoralizing as well as hurtful. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is not only an established treatment for anxiety and depression, it is also the best studied psychotherapy for treating pain. CBT is based on the premise that thoughts, feelings, and sensations are all related. Therapists use CBT to help patients learn coping skills so that they can manage, rather than be victimized by, their pain."-Harvard Medical Journal
